Editorial Policy
How we research, write, and maintain the information on this site — and how to reach us if something is wrong.
⚠️ Important: CaregiverBenefits.org is an independent information website. We are not a government agency. We are not affiliated with Medicare, Medicaid, the VA, Social Security, or any federal or state agency. We do not approve, administer, or distribute any benefits, grants, or government programs. Nothing on this site is legal, medical, or financial advice. Always confirm program details with the official agency before making decisions.
Who We Are
CaregiverBenefits.org is an independent information website run by a small editorial team. Our mission is to help family caregivers across the United States find the government programs, legal rights, and benefit options that they qualify for — written in plain English, with real steps they can take.
We are not a government agency, benefits office, law firm, or medical practice. We do not provide personalized advice for individual situations. We research and explain how programs work so readers can make informed decisions and contact the right agencies themselves.
All content is managed by Analic Mata-Murray, Managing Editor, who holds a Communications degree from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello and has over 11 years of experience helping communities access government resources. You can reach her at editor@caregiverbenefits.org.
How We Research Our Content
Every guide on this site is built from primary, official sources. We do not repeat information from other websites without tracing it to an original government source first.
Our primary sources
- Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services — cms.gov
- U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs — va.gov
- Social Security Administration — ssa.gov
- Medicaid.gov — the official federal Medicaid portal
- Medicare.gov — the official Medicare portal
- State Medicaid agency websites for state-specific rules
- U.S. Department of Labor for FMLA and workplace rights
- Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for tax-related content
- Administration for Community Living for caregiver support programs
- State Adult Protective Services agencies for elder abuse content
What we do not do
- We do not copy content from other websites
- We do not invent program names, eligibility rules, or dollar amounts
- We do not speculate about outcomes for individual situations
- We do not guarantee eligibility or benefit approval for anyone
- We do not accept payment to write about or recommend specific programs or services
Accuracy and Updates
Government program rules change frequently. Medicaid income limits, VA benefit rates, and Medicare coverage rules are updated annually — sometimes mid-year. We do our best to keep content current but we cannot guarantee that every detail on this site reflects the most current rules at the moment you read it.
Every article shows a “Last checked” date at the top. This is the date we last verified the key facts in that article against official sources. It is not a guarantee that nothing has changed since then.
Always confirm current program rules, income limits, and eligibility requirements directly with the official agency before making any decisions.
If you find outdated or incorrect information on this site, please email us at corrections@caregiverbenefits.org. We review and correct errors as quickly as possible, typically within 5 business days.
What We Do Not Claim
We are careful about how we describe what caregivers may or may not qualify for. Government programs have eligibility rules that depend on individual income, assets, health status, state of residence, and other factors we cannot assess from a website.
- We do not tell readers they “will” qualify for any program
- We do not promise any specific dollar amount to any reader
- We do not use phrases like “guaranteed benefit” or “you are owed”
- We explain how programs work and who typically qualifies — the official agency makes the determination
Advertiser Independence
CaregiverBenefits.org may display advertisements through Google AdSense and may include affiliate links in some content. Advertisers and affiliate partners have no influence over our editorial content. We do not accept payment to write about, recommend, or rank any product, service, or program. Our content recommendations are based entirely on research and what we believe is most useful to caregivers.
For more information about how advertising works on this site, see our Advertising Disclosure.
Tools and Calculators
This site includes interactive tools — a care cost calculator, caregiver burnout quiz, paid caregiver quiz, phone scripts, and checklists. These tools are for informational and educational purposes only.
- The care cost calculator uses published survey data — actual costs in your area may differ
- The burnout quiz is based on the Zarit Burden Interview, a validated clinical screening tool — it is not a diagnosis
- The paid caregiver quiz identifies programs that may exist in your state — eligibility is determined by the program, not this tool
- Phone scripts are starting points — agency representatives may ask for information not covered in the script
None of our tools collect personally identifiable information. No answers are stored or shared. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Corrections Policy
We take accuracy seriously. If a program rule changes and our article has not been updated, or if we have made a factual error, we want to know. We correct genuine errors promptly and note significant corrections within the article when appropriate.
We do not alter articles to remove criticism or change positions for commercial reasons. If we update a factual claim, we update the “Last checked” date and note what changed when the change is significant.
